Vertigo: Common In Car Accident & Brain Injury

At the Law Offices of Moseley Collins, we know auto accidents, motorcycle and truck accidents occur every day in Sacramento and throughout California.

Severe car, motorcycle and truck accidents can leave a crash victim with a traumatic brain injury. As a Sacramento car accident law firm we regularly assist victims who are suffering from a catastrophic brain injury. If you ever find yourself in this position, as an auto accident victim with trauma to the brain, one key aliment to watch out for is vertigo. This will assist your lawyer or attorney in representing you.

According to Dr. Kuljit Singh, “Head injuries from motor vehicle accidents or any other kind of trauma would result in traumatic vertigo. Vertigo occurs when sensation from the inner ear, eyes and sensation throughout the body are mismatched.”

In order to sustain balance, human beings need all three elements coordinated by the brain. Any incongruence in one of the elements may trigger vertigo.

Up to 5-10 percent of the population experiences vertigo. While hospitalized for a brain injury related to a car collision, remember to have your family members and medical professionals help you watch for signs of vertigo. Common signs of vertigo include involuntary movement of the eyeballs, dizziness and/or lightheadedness.

Keep in mind, that dizziness doesn’t always mean vertigo. People sometimes get dizzy merely from standing up too quickly from a seated or lying position. Age may also be a factor in contributing to dizziness. So communicate with your doctor to help you determine if your dizziness is indeed vertigo.

If the doctors do diagnose you with vertigo, this will be reflected in your medical records. On this subject, we advise you to make sure your doctor documents in your medical records that the vertigo is a result of the motor vehicle collision.
